This is so much practical then since the majority of people were illiterate. Centuries later, members of the nobility used monks to write the invitations for their parties and they were delivered personally to the guests. Since the monks service is quite pricey, this was a way to show how affluent the family was. The practice of bridal showers then started during the Victorian Era. When lithography was invented also during this time, it was the start of invitations for all occasions and even bridal showers being printed. In the next century following the Victorian Era, bridal shower invitations were then engraved. This became the favorite of the nobility since it had the same handwritten look the monks used. Later on thermography was developed and it allowed cheaper printing. This type of invitation, for bridal shower and other occasions, was then used by everybody, not just the elite and the members of the nobility. It became the start of mass produced bridal shower invitations. Since it was already the modern times, the masses started imitating the bridal showers of the nobles and the rich and famous, and this included the bridal shower invitations. The members of the elite then decided it was their responsibility to better educate the masses by sharing with them their expertise. Emily Post and Amy Vanderbilt even wrote books on etiquette which included the proper way of addressing invitations.
Nowadays, everybody knows that the style of the bridal shower, similar with the wedding invitation, must also be seen in the bridal shower invitation. The host must have a traditional bridal shower invitation if they are having a traditional bridal shower. Of course there are also other showers, like theme bridal shower and the host might want to give such. In this case, they must also show the theme in the bridal shower invitations. For these invitations we do not have one general rule to follow. It is now even common to see bridal shower invitations written by the host. Cakes, chocolate and even candies invitations are now also being used. These days, the important thing is to have the same theme in the invitation so that they can have perfect invitations. In other words, the bridal shower invitations must reflect the style and theme of the bridal shower.
